October Team Member Spotlight: Michelle Lewis, Web Application Developer

Michelle Lewis - Web Application DeveloperHow long have you been working at TopSpot and what do you do here?

I’ve been with TopSpot for seven years now! I started on the Analytics team, where I would set up and implement analytics solutions for our clients. I gained a lot of valuable experience working with various analytics tools and developing with JavaScript. I’m now a Web Application Developer working on building TopSpot’s very own analytics solution called LOOP Analytics.

Which fictional character would you most like to switch lives with?

I think it would be really cool to be a Powerpuff Girl! That was one of my favorite shows growing up. They spend every day solving new problems, thwarting evil plots against their town, and occasionally saving the world. Buttercup (the green one) was always my favorite, so maybe I would switch with one of her sisters so I could hang out with her.

Otherwise, it would be pretty cool to switch lives with Ash and explore the world as a Pokémon trainer.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

I love problem-solving, and being an application developer means that I am continually looking for new ways to innovate and improve our process and service. It can be a lot of work, but I genuinely enjoy the challenge and find it’s incredibly rewarding and motivating to see our plans come together.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

I spend most of my time outside of work with my family. I have two little boys ages four and six years old, and they tend to do a pretty good job of keeping my husband and me busy. We always have a lot of fun together exploring new places, or just visiting our favorite spots around Houston.

I’m a big Harry Potter fan, so I like to listen to the books on Audible during my commute to work. So far I’ve read/listened through all seven books four times! However, I’m considering taking a break so that I can give Ready Player One a try since I enjoyed the film adaptation.

When the kids are asleep, I like to learn about new web technologies and create my own small applications. Web development has been a hobby of mine since I was around ten years old, and yet I am still constantly learning and discovering new methodologies and tools. It’s always changing rapidly and has certainly come a very long way since my days discovering HTML as a 10-year-old.

I also love gaming! Growing up I played many different flavors of MMORPGs, along with various Nintendo and PlayStation titles, in recent years, I mostly stick to casual PC gaming via Steam, or mobile games since they are the most convenient.

What is the most exciting project you have worked on during your time at TopSpot?

LOOP Analytics is definitely the most complex and interesting project I have worked on so far. There are a LOT of different components involved that make LOOP what it is, and we are always adding to it and improving the way it works. It’s pretty amazing how so many ideas have culminated to form the LOOP that we know today, and I love seeing how the rest of our team, as well as our clients, have been using it. We still have a lot of awesome features planned for LOOP in the future – I’m looking forward to developing it and seeing the project grow!
