November Team Member Spotlight: David Redd, SEO Specialist
How long have you been working at TopSpot and what do you do here?
I’ve been an SEO Specialist at TopSpot for 2 years and currently work on one of TopSpot’s Enterprise Teams. I work hands-on with a variety of clients by combing through various data tools such as Google Analytics, Screaming Frog, BrightEdge, and more in order to identify opportunities, create strategies and implement strategic changes that will help our clients organically capture the coveted “top spot” on the first page of the search results for Google or Bing.
What are some of your favorite TopSpot memories from the last 2 years?
This is a tough one as there are many great memories from a client and personal level. However, I’ll go with the most recent memory which is winning “Funniest Halloween Costume 2018” for my Jim Adler – The Texas Hammer get-up (I’ve included a photo from that day below). Another fun memory was when I went to Google’s Headquarters in Mountain View, California last year with a group of TopSpotters. I got to ride one of their bikes around campus (also included in the photos below) and was able to take in the sights and sounds of San Francisco for the first time.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would love to learn Spanish fluently! I took classes in college, but now I’m currently attempting to master the language by studying via Rosetta Stone and an app called Duolingo.
What is something you have learned in the last week?
A client reached out to me this week about changing the driving directions to his machine shop from Google Maps because it was taking customers down a private road, away from his building. So, after speaking with Google representatives over the phone I learned how to work in Google Maps in order to make the necessary changes to the client’s delight. That’s what I enjoy most about this industry. There’s always something new to learn!
What do you think is the most important quality you need to have success?
A combination of drive, eagerness to learn and passion.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy leisure biking through Houston (not the spandex wearing, Lance Armstrong type of biking), extended weekend trips to other cities in the U.S. (Nashville, Milwaukee, & Boston are all next on my list) and running my entrepreneurial passion project, Houston Town Futsal. HTFL is an adult coed group I created based on my desire to bring together and highlight Houston neighborhoods through community service, futsal, and rotating social events. If you aren’t familiar with futsal, it is a condensed, sped up form of soccer that is usually played indoors on a basketball like court, with five players to a side, hockey-sized goals, and a smaller low-bouncing ball.
