At TopSpot, we know every Team Member is a special part of our company’s success. Each month, we highlight some of the amazing people we get to work with every day. Today, we are shining the Spotlight on Jessica Free. Her coworkers describe her as dedicated with a great attitude. Read on to learn more about Jessica, including her unusual choice of destination spot (it’s spooky!).
Meet Jessica Free, HR & Education Coordinator
How long have you been working at TopSpot and what do you do here?
I have been working at TopSpot for a little over 5 years, which means I have spent almost 1/5 of my life working here!
I first started at the front desk in the Accounting Support role, then I moved into the Accounting office and was the Accounts Receivable Specialist for 3 years. Once I graduated from the University of Houston (Go Coogs!), I became the Client Engagement & Event Specialist and handled all internal and external events. Being in this role I was lucky enough to travel to Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Chicago for different events and connect with clients and explore new places I had never been before.
Recently, I have moved onto our People Team as the HR & Education Coordinator and I handle onboarding, benefits, and ongoing education for our Team.
What has been your proudest moment at TopSpot?
I’m torn between my two proudest moments at TopSpot. It’s hard to choose just one, but at least they fall under the same theme? 😉 Both of my proudest moments are events that we hosted in 2018. The first event was Parents’ Day which was basically a “Bring Your Parents to Work Day”. We had a presentation along with different stations where the parents could learn hands-on what their kids do every day at work. And of course, there was a photo booth!
My second proudest moment would have to be our 15-year anniversary party held at Armadillo Palace. This was my first large event to plan for TopSpot and we had around 300 guests between TopSpotters, their families, and our clients. I take a lot of pride in seeing every detail of the plan fall into place and everyone enjoying themselves. This was a huge milestone for TopSpot and the event was a reflection of everything we had accomplished up to that point.
What is your definition of success?
My definition of success might be a little different than most. I feel the most successful when I am content with where I’m at “in the moment”. Obviously, yes, I want to be better than I was the day before and work hard to accomplish what I have set out to do. But if I don’t stop to appreciate what I have in this moment, then my “success” isn’t worth it.
Jessica is such a great example of a Team Member who lives our core values every day. No matter what role she’s been in or what project she’s tasked with, she approaches her work with a positive attitude, a people-first mentality, accountability, and so much heart. I feel really lucky to be on the same team as her. Not only is she enjoyable to work with, but she pushes me and inspires me to get better every day. And I know I’m not the only one at TopSpot that feels that way.Julia Karnezis, Jessica’s Manager
What are some of your hobbies and interests?
I’m so ready for summer to be here since I love anything happening in and around the water. You can usually find me jet skiing, tubing, or glamping around Texas in the summertime. Traveling has become a very fun hobby I have been lucky enough to experience lately and I don’t see that urge to travel stopping anytime soon. And I’m more of a road trip kind of girl – let’s just say flying is not my favorite thing to do.
Outside of that, I enjoy spending time with my dog, Jax, by taking him to the park or local bars with my boyfriend, two-stepping with my friends, and having Sunday night dinners with my family. More recently I’ve picked up working out as a hobby and I’m thoroughly enjoying it! I take spin, yoga, and strength classes at Revolution Studio and spend most of my evenings there having a sweat therapy session. I’m grateful for the friends and accountability partners I have made there.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
If I could travel anywhere in the world, I would fly (insert scary face) straight to Pompeii! For some reason when I learned about the city in school, it has stuck with me forever. It’s incredibly sad to think their lives ended so tragically and quickly, but I’m intrigued by the idea that we get to see their lives frozen in time.
Here are a few things Jessica’s Team Members have to say about her:
This thank you is very overdue, but since you’ve stepped into the events role things really have improved in different areas and it’s been evident, especially from my perspective! Having you help Beth and take on tasks that would have usually gone to the design team has alleviated the volume of internal tickets. The events now have another level of personalization and you can really see that there was someone behind the care and attention to small details. Our clients may not be able to pin who was heavily responsible for the fun surprises and great ideas so I just wanted to thank you for the amazing job you’ve been doing!
A bunch of people over in web (myself included) needed help with their open enrollment forms and Jessica was nice enough to walk over here and answered everyone’s questions about the forms. I know she was probably super busy, but she stayed over here until everyone had been helped. Jessica is always such an amazing person to work with and her great attitude is infectious. Thank you Jessica for everything you do here at TopSpot! 🙂
My thanks to you were due for a while!! You have consistently worked with me regarding different Guides to get prepared and launched in Bridge. In fact, you have revamped the look and added more value with appropriate videos as a part of it. Thank you so much.
