TopSpot Team Member Spotlight: Shonna Orechio
At TopSpot, we know every Team Member is a special part of our company’s success. Each month, we highlight some of the amazing people we get to work with every day. Today, we are shining the Spotlight on Shonna Orechio. Her coworkers describe her as skilled and reliable. Read on to learn more about Shonna, including her ideal superpower.
Meet Shonna Orechio, Lead Web Developer
How long have you been working at TopSpot and what do you do here?
I have been working at TopSpot for almost three years. I started a week before Hurricane Harvey hit Houston which makes it an easy anniversary date to keep track of. I currently lead our web development team. Not only do I get to make some pretty awesome websites, but I also plan project scopes and provide time estimates, assist my fellow developers with their tasks and challenges, and help my team execute their ideas and suggestions around departmental process improvements.

What do you enjoy most about your role here?
The thing I enjoy most about my job is how many people I get to collaborate with on a daily basis.
I love to help people, improve efficiency, and do whatever I can to make lives easier for both my coworkers and our clients.
What is your proudest achievement since working at TopSpot?
My proudest achievement was the development of a particularly large and complex site for one of our larger clients that challenged my backend development skills. I have been building websites for nearly a decade, but I mostly focus on front-end and user interface development, so it was a lot of fun to build new features and functionality that I hadn’t done before.
If you could learn something new what would it be and why?
If I were to take the time to learn something new, I’d pick something I would get a lot of use out of like general handyman skills. The only tool I’m comfortable using right now is a screwdriver, which can only get you so far in regards to home maintenance. I would love to be able to renovate my own house (within reason for a nonprofessional) and fix things that break by myself. I’m always in awe of people who are not only able to do this but also do it well.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time around caring for my pets and children, I like to play video games on my computer, tend to my vegetable garden, write stories, and read. I also really enjoy hanging out with my extended family whenever I get the chance.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
If I could have any superpower it would be the ability to teleport anywhere I wanted to go. I love to travel, but dislike how much effort it takes to get anywhere. If I could take a single second to pop to New Zealand or the top of Mount Everest or a beach in the Caribbean. I would visit SO many places!
