At TopSpot, we value our Team Members and appreciate the unique strengths they bring to their roles. Each month, we showcase some of the people we are lucky enough to work with every day. Today, we are shining the Spotlight on Alex Maiorano. This fun-loving, hard-working Team player makes everyone’s day a little brighter!

Meet Alex Maiorano, Accounts Receivable Specialist

How long have you been working at TopSpot and what do you do here?

I started working for TopSpot on January 8, 2019, as an Accounts Receivable Specialist. My primary role consists of managing and securing timely payment, making bank deposits, assisting with our monthly invoicing, performing accounts reconciliations, and providing audits of our account receivables, among other duties. Although all those are essential components of my responsibilities, the most rewarding part of my position is forging great relationships with our Clients and my peers.

What led you to this role at TopSpot?

I have been working in Collection and AR for about 16 years with different companies and for different industries. However, my biggest attraction to TopSpot was our culture. I love what our Core Values represent and how they really resonate with my personal values.

Which of our Core Values resonates the most with you?

“Do the right thing!” is the Core Value that really resonates with me the most. Not only because it is a “Spike Lee Joint” (Just Kidding 😊), but it shows the integrity of a person on how we should conduct ourselves and as a company.

It takes no thought or effort to always do right by our family, peers and our customers.

What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself?

If I had a chance to meet my younger self: One, I would be telling him he is a strapping young lad (Just kidding 😊!). And two, I would put my arm around his shoulders and tell him not to waste time and seize every opportunity to prepare for the future. As a young man, I often thought I had all the time in the world to finish anything – for example, my education. However, that was not the case. Reality hit fast and hard. I got married, had two beautiful kids, my Mom passed, my wife got sick, etc., etc., etc. As the dust settled on all these life events, I noticed time had passed me by, and now I am closer to retirement than when I first got married. Now, I am not saying I am an old man with a long grey beard and a cane. But, I am in a rush and I am constantly reinventing myself to set up a platform for my kids to build on. So like I said, if I had the chance to meet strapping young Alex (wink, wink), I would tell him not to let time slip him by. Create and build for your future young, so you can enjoy life with your family instead of making a life for your family.

Who or what has been your biggest influence?

Aside from the obvious – my family – I would have to say it was my old bandmaster, Col. Danny Jaynes at Valley Forge Military Academy. He is an incredible man who I love and admire. Many of his life lessons left a footprint and have influenced the person I am today. As a young man, he showed me and my peers the value of hard work, teamwork, and love for each other. I am eternally grateful for that.

What do you do when not working?

I love to spend time with the family, BBQing, and enjoy a good cigar from time to time.

Do you have any hidden or unusual talents?

I don’t know if it is a hidden talent, but I love to perform with my Salsa group in NY/NJ and play my saxophone every so often.

If you won the lottery, what would you do with the winnings?

First, I would help out my family, buy that RV that I always dreamed of for my retirement. Second, I would invest money in some type of business that not only would increase my capital, but also provide employment for other families. In addition, I would donate a chunk of money to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Children’s cancer is a cause close to my heart.
