TopSpot Team Member Spotlight: Jahnessa Quintero

At TopSpot, we appreciate our Team Members and recognize their unique strengths. Each month, we showcase some of the great people we get to work with every day. Today, we are shining the Spotlight on Jahnessa Quintero. When not helping to support the accounting department, Jahnessa loves to be outdoors and has some intriguing interests.

Meet Jahnessa Quintero, Accounts Payable/Contracts Support

How long have you been at TopSpot and what do you do here?

Jahnessa Quintero, TopSpot Accounts Payable and Contracts Support

I have been working at TopSpot for four years now and will hit five in January! I started out working at the front desk for two years before an Accounts Payable/Contract Support role opened up and I was able to grow into this position. I am involved in all aspects of the accounting world – from working with clients from the moment they sign up with TopSpot to working with vendors.

What is interesting about your job that other people may not realize?

There is never a dull moment in my day. My week never goes as planned; there are always mini fire drills or new projects that pop up that will take priority, but that is what always keeps my job fun and interesting.

What are three career lessons you have learned so far?

One – It is okay to mess up. We are always trying to be better but making mistakes is just a part of being human. Stressing out or beating yourself up for something you messed up on won’t get you anywhere. Instead, we just have to learn how to improve for the next time.

Two – Asking for help is not a weakness. It is better to ask for help or other opinions because we don’t always know the answers to everything. I am notorious for asking questions or even just for a different set of eyes to give me another view of something I might not have seen otherwise.

Three – Be adaptable. I have learned to enjoy the challenges of being adaptable. As a person who likes to complete one task at a time, this was not always the case. This, however, has led me to be able to function in all the roles of my department and be an important asset to my team.

What is your favorite TopSpot memory?

My favorite memory has to be the TopSpot 15th-year anniversary party. My people know how to throw a good party! I got to put a face to a lot of clients I am always talking to on the phone and made some lifelong friends with coworkers.

What are your favorite Texas things to do?

Living in Texas, your summer plans have to revolve around bodies of water to escape the heat. You can mostly find me at the Guadalupe River, floating with my best friends, or at a lake doing some kind of activity like water skiing or tubing. I also am a big fan of craft beer – especially stouts and porters (which everyone at TopSpot Happy Hours knows me for). I have been working on my first plate at the Flying Saucer, which is earned after drinking 200 different types of beers. I am only 55 beers away from earning it!

What are your favorite hobbies or interests?

I love camping just because I enjoy being outdoors. I feel stir crazy when I am indoors for long periods of time unless it is raining. Unplugging from a screen for the weekend with good friends and cooking around a fire is when I am probably the happiest and the best part is that it is not very expensive.

For around 12 years now I have enjoyed collecting art in all forms especially Japanese or Hip-Hop inspired. My largest collection is in the form of vinyl figures. Most of my purchases have been from my trips to San Diego ComicCon or NYCC, but my biggest collection are be@rbricks of which I have over 30.

If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

Definitely Patagonia in the southernmost tip of South America. It has been on my bucket list for years. The towering glaciers and vast lakes look so surreal. My goal is to independently backpack from Chile into Argentina.

Here are a few things Jahnessa Team Members have to say about her:

I have really enjoyed working with Jahnessa over the last four and a half years. She is reliable, adaptable, and always has a great attitude. Jahnessa continues to take every opportunity possible to learn new things and always finds the time to sit down and teach others. She is ready to jump in and help when she sees someone needs a hand and she’s always leading by example. I appreciate everything that she does every day for our team and the way she encourages all of us around her.
