TopSpot Team Member Spotlight: Amanda Corwin (Jones)

At TopSpot, we value our Team Members and appreciate the unique strengths they bring to their roles. This month, we are showcasing some of the people we are lucky enough to work with every day. We are shining the Spotlight on Amanda Corwin. Her Team members describe her as a natural leader as well as a positive influence on everyone she works with.

Meet Amanda Jones, Team Lead

How long have you been working at TopSpot and what do you do here?

I have been with TopSpot for 2 years; on the 8th of January, I celebrated my TopSpot anniversary! I am a Team Lead, responsible for guiding a fantastic team of SEO, SEM, and Conversion Optimization specialists to grow the businesses and digital marketing programs that our clients trust us with.

What is interesting about your job that people may not realize?

I like that my job has two distinct lenses: the external lens of working with clients on their websites and marketing programs, and the internal lens of growing and developing TopSpotters. There is a lot that can go wrong when you’re balancing both of those significant responsibilities, but to me, there is so much more value in seeing the different forms success can take. A good day might be that one of our clients saw a big lead come through their search marketing program, or it might be that one of my Team members achieved a big goal they’ve been working towards. With such different versions of success, there’s never a dull day in my role.

What does Leadership look like to you?

Sometimes leadership can feel like a big, nebulous principle. I sometimes wonder, “Am I doing this right?” But so far in my career, I’ve learned that it really can be as simple as doing for others what you would want to be done for you.

Whether leading my clients in their marketing strategies or leading my Team members in their own development, I lead by example, I care about others’ needs as if they were my own, and I try to do for them what my mentors and role models have done for me.

Whether you call that servant leadership or the Golden Rule, I’ve made it a guiding principle in my career and have found joy and contentment in doing what I do. I was honored in December with TopSpot’s annual Toppie Award for Leadership and it was such a gratifying experience to be recognized by my Team members, peers, and managers for being a leader among so many other fantastic leaders I encounter every day at TopSpot.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

My top strength is empathy. One of my professors in grad school cautioned me that I might not make it far in the corporate world as an empath, and his advice was that I try to hone other skills/competencies to overtake the empathy. I carry that with me as a chip on my shoulder largely because I perceived him to be telling me what would hold me back in life. But he did two things for me. One, he motivated me; even many years later he motivates me. And two, his advice to hone other skills has made me more self-aware, a better communicator, and has led me to find roles in which customer relationships are a critical component.

What does an ideal day outside of work look like?

Any day spent with my husband, Kyle, and our German Shorthaired Pointer, Coby, is a good day. We like to be outside, at the park or in the yard, watching Coby be the high-energy hunting dog that he was born to be. After a productive morning fueled by coffee, I want to spend the afternoon in the hammock with a book (during which, I guarantee you, I will nap).

What are some family traditions you treasure?

I got my undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas and my brother got his from the University of Alabama, so SEC football is a tradition in my family. Every year we all get together to watch the Arkansas/Alabama game, and most often we travel to Fayetteville or Tuscaloosa. If you know even a little bit about college football you know you hear about Alabama way more than you do Arkansas. I’ve been on the losing end of the game every year for the last 14 seasons. But I treasure the experiences and the time spent with my parents and brother. He’ll rue the day Arkansas finally wins one.

If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go and why?

Kyle and I got married last year and given the global pandemic, we had to cancel our honeymoon to Greece. I still really want to go! It looks beautiful and I’ve heard they move at a slower pace of life. I think I would enjoy that for a vacation.

Here are a few things Amanda’s Team Members have to say about her:

From the very first day Amanda walked into the TopSpot office, she’s reminded us of why we were so excited she decided to come work with us.  You only need to be around Amanda for a few minutes to pick up on her kindness, drive to succeed and mindfulness to always do the right thing. Her team and the accounts they manage have grown so much under Amanda’s leadership. She becomes personally invested in every person she engages with and it comes through in all of her interactions. Coming to us with a lot of experience but at a larger corporation, Amanda has challenged us to improve our processes and our way of thinking. She is a gem and I am so proud of her.

Mary Coleman, Amanda’s Manager

Thank you for ALL you do for our team and our clients!! You’ve helped me so much these last few months as I learn and grow in my role on our team. You also go above and beyond for our clients every single day and it definitely does not go unnoticed. We appreciate you!

Big thank you and shoutout to Amanda for being such a big help through my first month of being on a team. Her encouragement and thoughtful advice has been such a huge part of my transition into this new role. If ever I feel discouraged about my performance, she’s ready to provide a more positive perspective to help guide me to success. She’s very easy to learn from and is always ready to put her team first. Thank you for being such a great Team Lead!

Thank you so much for taking the time to walk me through the team lead checklist last week! Your insight and advice was so helpful. I know you had a lot going on (especially right before the holiday!) so the fact that you took the time to help me out means so much.
