TopSpot Team Member Spotlight: Sarah Batalla
At TopSpot, we appreciate our Team Members and recognize their unique strengths. Each month, we showcase some of the great people we get to work with every day. Today, we are shining the Spotlight on Sarah Batalla. Sarah is known as a fantastic leader and teacher and is always ready to learn more.
Meet Sarah Batalla, Team Lead
How long have you been working at TopSpot and what do you do here?
I have been working for TopSpot for 2 ½ years, and I lead one of the many awesome Customer Relationship Teams. With the help of my SEO and SEM Team Members, we strategize on how to get our clients the exposure and results their business needs to generate sales. We take no prisoners, just conversions!
Our mission is ongoing, so part of my role is to manage the performance and communication for the businesses that have partnered with us. Before coming to work for TopSpot, I spent 16 years working for an E-Commerce company in almost every facet of the business from training and developing new teams, or partnering with the marketing department, to managing a Sales Team and contributing to sales and revenue goals.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
My favorite part of the role is working with an amazing Team and I do not mean just my own Team, but every single Team Member at TopSpot. I think we all know that popular quote:
“Two heads are better than one, not because either is infallible, but because they are unlikely to go wrong in the same direction.” C.S. Lewis
At TopSpot I get to collaborate with great minds from the Analytics and Design Team to the Web Department. Their support allows our Team to provide an integrated approach for all our business partners.
If you could give advice to new TopSpotters on their first day, what would it be?
Speak up and ask questions.
My mom always encouraged me to speak up and advocate for myself and I carried that lesson with me throughout my personal and work life. At TopSpot, everyone wants to hear from you and draw from your different perspective, so if you are asked for feedback or if you have any questions, raise your hand and speak up.
Don’t be afraid to fail.
It took over 10,000 experiments to invent the lightbulb, and what you try may not work the first time. However, you will never know what doesn’t work if you don’t first try it.
What does an ideal day outside of work look like?
An ideal day for my household is enjoying a quiet morning at home with a breakfast spread that “Ron Swanson” would be proud of. Next, we would plan our day which may consist of either a live music show, a trip to the record store, a group bike ride, or checking out the latest exhibit at the Houston Museum of Fine Art.
What are you reading and listening to right now?
This year I challenged myself to read more, so when TopSpot decided to start a book club I said, “sign me up”. I just finished reading “Mexican Gothic” and I highly recommend this chilling mystery. When I am not reading, I enjoy listening to music, I am a lover of all music, from the 50’s love ballads to the Seattle grunge of my teenage years. My favorite music style would have to be 80’s New Wave and there is nothing I love more than a live show. When we travel, we try to squeeze in a music show wherever we go. Our last show was in Mexico City where we saw Mac Demarco and Of Montreal. Favorite artists: Joy Division, The Psychedelic Furs, Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, The Velvet Underground.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
My family enjoys a good road trip. There is so much fun in the pit stops, course corrections, and the anticipation of reaching our destination. So, if I could go anywhere in the world, I would choose to set sail and the destination would be every stop in between.
